William Dec Jr., M.D.
Dr. William Dec was born in Washington, D.C, and graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University (1974) with a degree in chemistry. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1978 and subsequently performed his medical residency and fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at the Massachusetts General Hospital. At MGH, he joined the Cardiology Division and Department of Medicine in 1984. Dr. Dec has served as Medical Director of the MGH Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Program from its inception in 1984 until 2004. He attained the rank of Physician (Medicine) in 1997. He has developed a robust program of heart failure clinical trials, established a highly regarded cardiomyopathy and heart failure center, and developed a nationally recognized program in heart transplantation. He served as Associate Chief of Cardiology at MGH in 1996; Director of Clinical Cardiology from 1998-2003, Interim Chief of Cardiology (2002-3) and was appointed as Chief of the Cardiology Division in 2003. He also directs the Partners Healthcare Heart Failure Disease management program. Dr. Dec is the Roman DeSanctis Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
