MissionTo accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. - Anatole France The Lawrence Transplant Foundation has been founded to support promising avenues of research that will improve the survival rates for people needing organ transplants. We dream of a time when anyone needing an organ transplant will have access to an organ that will prolong their life with no fear of their body's immune system rejecting the organ. We believe that our dream will be realized through supporting advanced research in this area. According to the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) there are currently 93,838 candidates on the organ transplant waiting list as of 11/8/06. For the lucky ones that receive a donated organ, it's a great relief to have the opportunity to continue to lead a fulfilling life. However, the possibility of rejection of the new organ is always a concern. A transplant recipient will spend the rest of his or her life on a regimen of medications prescribed to prevent rejection. Unfortunately, the side effects of these medications can themselves potentially cause life threatening complications. The Lawrence Transplant Foundation has the dual mission of raising awareness and raising critically needed funding for advanced organ transplant research. The foundation is currently supporting the work of The Transplant Biology Research Center , which is focused on research aimed at developing a limitless supply of organs for transplant as well as on developing new techniques that will prevent the rejection of a transplanted organ. For more information on how you, as an individual or as a corporate sponsor, can support these promising avenues of research, please contact us . |
