April 22nd is Earth Day, and it is a great opportunity to have some fun with your family. Here are a few ways to celebrate the earth without the Harmful 7:
1. Plant a small herb or vegetable garden
When we remove the Harmful 7, we are left with real, whole and healthy food. A perfect way to spring clean your diet is to always have fresh produce on hand. Rather than run to the grocery store every other day for vegetables, why not run outside and grab some straight from your very own garden? Earth day is a great opportunity for you and your family to connect with the earth by planting a small herb or vegetable garden.
2. Get outside and go for a walk
If planting a garden with your kids seems like a little too much work, try getting outside for a walk. Enjoy the sunshine and spring weather with a long walk through a park, nearby trails, or around your neighborhood. Walks are a great way to connect with your kids and nature, while staying active and healthy as a family.
3. Visit your local Farmer’s Market
Now that spring is here, you may notice your local Farmer’s Markets are beginning to open on the weekends. Stop by and check out what your local farmers are growing. Farmer’s Markets are one of the best ways to grab the freshest local vegetables. You’ll be helping the earth by opting for a local option that has traveled a much shorter distance to get to you and your family.
4. Eat seasonal & local produce for the day
After you get back from the Farmer’s Market, you’ll be one step closer to eating seasonal and local produce for the day. By choosing seasonal and local produce, you are putting less stress on the earth because it has less traveling to do to get to you.
5. Start a small compost bin
In case you find yourself throwing away spoiled fresh produce each week, , try starting a small compost bin. Now that wonderful produce doesn’t completely go to waste. Maybe explain here more details on what you do with your compost bin waste.
Earth Day is a fun opportunity to celebrate the planet with your family – and these are just a few suggestions. Get outside and enjoy the earth on this day!
